There’s one holiday in Sivan – and it’s a BIG ONE – but very few people know much about Shavuot

Its very interesting that almost every year, the Torah portion before Shavuot is Ba’Midbar.

Really? The Torah is about to be given and we read about a CENSUS? How many Jews in this tribe and how many in that tribe?

That’s really exciting!

All sarcasm aside, this census was actually perfect for Shavuot and it contains a secret message. The Chassidic masterpiece “Netivot Shalom”, written by the Slonimer Rebbe, reveals just what it is.

For the Torah to be kept properly, we need EVERY JEW to do his/her part.

The Torah was not given to individuals… it was given to a Nation; 46,500 from the tribe of Reuven, 62,700 from the tribe of Dan and so on…

Parts of the Torah are just for Kohanim, others are just for women, some are for judges, farmers and employers.

Some parts of  the Torah apply only to a first-born, others apply to soldiers while others apply to baby boys…

Get the point? We need everyone to do their part; the 46,500 from Reuven PLUS the 62,700 from Dan PLUS the rest of the Jewish nation.

This is the secret of Shavuot… the secret that for Am Yisrael Chai – for the nation of Israel to truly be alive… we need EACH and EVERY ONE OF YOU!

So, let’s get to work!
